Welcome to the Fieldroom: A Community of Practice

We would like to explore the concept and experience of moving from the scholarly ‘classroom’ of academia (represented by four walls, but welcoming flexible and expanded definitions) into new realms of (un)learning. We are interested in the moment of the ‘unlearning epiphany’ the point between disengagement and engagement, between knowing and unknowing. We want to use this Community of Practice to explore what we three scholar/dreamers call ‘entering the fieldroom’, the place where unlearning epiphanies happen, to find out where and how they might occur - in the outdoors, in the workplace, in the home, in the body - and why this knowledge might be important for academics, researchers, educators and learners across cultures and spaces of learning. We invite co-dreamers to join us in a free, drop-in, online monthly meetup and be part of growing an embodied and creative Community of Practice to collectively build narratives around the ‘fieldroom’.

The three founding scholar/dreamers:

Jane Robb

Jane is an artist and academic with over a decade of experience in science education, including as a qualified teacher and lecturer in outdoor education. Her first PhD is in environmental social science, and she is currently pursuing her second doctorate in art and design at De Montfort University, UK.

José Pablo Prado Córdova

Pablo deems himself as a liberation ecologist, a seasoned scholar committed to socially relevant teaching and research, particularly that stemming from a critical stance vis-à-vis contemporary processes of environmental degradation and social injustice. He holds a tenured position at the University of San Carlos in his home country, Guatemala.

Arinola Adefila

Arinola is a Professor of Social Policy and EDI at Buckinghamshire New University, UK. Arinola is an established transdisciplinary researcher whose work explores transformative learning environments, just transitions, and sustainable futures. Her research also focuses on social action that addresses complex, “wicked” problems through transformative and lifelong learning principles.
